HAD A WONDERFUL GROUP OF YOUNG ARTISTS OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS JOIN ME AT CANAL VILLAGE FOR 2 HOURS OF ART AND LOTS OF FUN.
THE YOUNG GUESTS ARE PRODUCING SOME INTERESTING WORK AND I AM PROUD OF DISPLAY IT ON MY BLOG.
GREAT WHEN YOU THINK THAT THESE YOUNG KIDS PRODUCE THIS STANDARD OF ART FROM A SINGLE 2 HOUR LESSON.
I WAS ASKED TODAY BY ONE OF MY YOUNG STUDENTS HOW SHE WOULD DECIDE WHAT TO PAINT?
I EXPLAINED TO HER THAT SHE COULD USE HER ‘ARTIST LICENCE‘.
SHE SAID SHE DID NOT HAVE A LICENCE AND ASKED ME WHAT THAT WAS.
I EXPLAINED TO HER THAT IT WAS HER IMAGINATION AND THAT EVERYONE HAS ARTISTIC LICENCE THEY JUST HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO USE IT.
SHE QUICKLY GRASPED WHAT I WAS SAYING AND WENT ON TO DO AN GOOD LITTLE ART WORK.
WHEN HER MOTHER ASKED HER HOW SHE WENT AFTER THE CLASS, SHE SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN EASY BECAUSE SHE HAD FOUND HER ‘ARTIST LICENCE‘. HER MOTHER LOOKED BEMUSED AND ASKED HER WHAT THAT WAS AND SHE SAID ‘IT IS SOMETHING THAT I CARRY AROUND WITH ME IN MY HEAD’.
WE ALL ROARED WITH LAUGHTER BUT IN FACT SHE HAD GOT IT, SHE KNEW THE POINT OF THE EXERCISE.
Good Students and good work.
My other young students made some interesting subject choices and I am proud of their work which was produced in less than 2 hours, they have listened and then painted well considered works.
“Colour is the key. The eye is the hammer. The soul is the piano with its many chords. The artist is the hand that, by touching this or that key, sets the soul vibrating automatically.” Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944)
a quote from the artist credited as having created the first abstract watercolour.
Sometimes you just get to teach a young artist that shows great promise and yesterday was one of those days, I knew he was different when he said to me, ‘I want to paint like Kandinsky’ – not something that you hear everyday and especially not from a 7 year old.
I love this young man’s work, it is amazing especially when you think that he is of such a young age.
As part of Laguna Phuket’s Summer Festival I have been taking morning art classes at the newly opened Outrigger Resort Laguna Phuket, had an amazing outdoor studio where inspiration to paint marine images was easy!
Back at Canal Village in the afternoon…and a family class…..wonderful!
Sunday was my day-off and I spent that touring around Phuket, stopped off at the Marina and was happy to stop and chat with a family that live in Phuket and had taken my class earlier in the week. Small world. Then off to Rawai Beach to enjoy the delights of Phuket’s Seafood Festival. Festival’s everywhere on this beautiful island.
Here are some pics from my classes and also a funny little roadside BBQ we saw on our way back to Laguna Phuket yesterday. Enjoy your day! I’m off to see the folks at Allamanda Laguna Phuket where I will be hold classes at 10am this morning.
Three kids from the same family took my art class yesterday afternoon at Canal Village and what a delight they were to teach. Jack and his twin sisters (6 years old) did some very good work.
Had a couple of young Aussie’s in my class today and they produced some great little artworks.
Early last week a baby elephant wondered into my gallery at Laguna Phuket – Canal Village. I do not think that there is anywhere else in the world where something like this would happen. Just a wonderful experience that I wanted to share with you all.
I now keep a supply of ripe bananas for the daily afternoon visits from the baby elephants here, yes there are more that one, in fact I have counted three so far.
